Right To Protest

OUR MOVEMENT

Brihat Nagarik Aandolan (BNA) is a civil movement which is run by activists voluntarily. It has no office, no working committee and no fund. This makes it unique.  It is an alliance formed by civil society members and people from various walks of life after the incumbent PM Khadga Prasad Oli dissolved the House of Representative in 2020. BNA took to the streets despite the pandemic against the authoritarian will of the Left Government that subverted the constitution and democratic rights. After the successful reinstatement of the House of Representative in 2021, BNA has been working with various social movements and people's alliances exposing injustice and abuse, and demanding accountability. Driven by the sense of social justice and shared humanity, BNA is working together against all forms of discrimination to create a better world where everyone is equal and free from inequalities.

OUR EVENT

Title - RIGHT TO PROTEST

Venue - OPEN SPACE IN BHRIKUTIMANDAP, KATHMANDU, NEPAL

Date - 18th Feb, 2024

Timing - 11:30 - 1 pm

WHY THIS EVENT?

Right to Protest is more invaluable now than ever to speak truth as peaceful assemblies are under attack by the governments and others with power to impair democratic hope and silence critical voices. People have the right to protest if they find that their rights have been violated by the state or if they are met with injustice. Many times, state mechanisms or systems are responsible for critical condition faced by people. If they are denied even to speak about their condition and demand correction by the state, it will be another injustice. It will even be against the whole concept of democracy where the government is accountable to its people. Thus, right to protest peacefully should be ensured by the government even if it hears criticism against itself.

To ensure this right, we (the members of BNA) constantly rise our voice in support of such people or groups who demand social justice and demand that their voices should be heard. We declare our commitment to such a voice from any corner of the globe who demands democracy, social justice, and equal treatment.
