Civil society role is crucial in building awareness, planning, implementation, monitoring and accountability. 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals has rightly recognized the role of civil society and civil society organizations. Governments are committed to robust, voluntary, effective, participatory, transparent and integrated follow up and review mechanisms.
Engaging a wide range of civil society organizations to enable all voices to be heard and complement to the government initiatives is critical. CSOs get engaged at the local, national, regional and global levels in various ways. Among others, High Level Political Forum and Voluntary National Reviews have been special occasions for CSOs to make assessments of the implementation of the SDGs. CSOs spotlight report including People’s Score Card has been an important way to collate people’s perceptions and assessment of the SDGs based on various indicators. Generally, the People’s Score Card process on SDGs culminates to the production of the assessment and report to the HLPF from the civil society or CSOs' perspective. “The purpose of developing a spotlight report with Scorecard method is to provide an opportunity for civil society organisations to review delivery of the 2030 Agenda in their own country.”
The objective of organizing a World People's Assembly on 2030 agenda is to:
